Is The Glass Half Empty Or Half Full?
The reason one sees the glass half full while another sees it half empty is because the first has a ‘supply’ mentality & the other has a ‘lack’ mentality. In The Bible, The Law demands and highlights that which is MISSING. Grace supplies, meets every demand of life and goes beyond. Falling from grace might not be what we think it is…
Every time one falls from grace, it’s not so much about committing a specific act of sin as it is about trying to accomplish a thing on one’s own effort; taking on the task as if SELF has to do something God can’t or won’t do (according to that one’s false perception about God).
A practicing Christian Atheist believes God is ‘out there’ somewhere, and if not consciously then at the very least sub-consciously he or she believes for all practical purposes God is uninvolved in his/her personal life.
Such an one attempts to live as if God doesn’t exist locally let alone inside one’s own body as the New Testament scriptures describe, and as a result fails to see by faith God’s rich abundance of everything ever needed or desired right in front of them.
The faith factor in this scenario is vital because God Himself is Spirit, they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, and the Eternal Supply He provides by His Grace is also invisible to the naked eye; that is until God’s Supply manifests into physical reality.
Grace People See What A Legalist Can’t
Everything physical began as spiritual. Jesus said “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63″ and God said “Let There Be Light.”
Having been made in the image and likeness of God, Believers are to SPEAK OUT what they wish to SEE take place.
Therefore, the one who walks by faith recognizes their role to initiate everything desired in this physical world (the one God gave us dominion over) by performing due diligence in the spiritual realm: declaring the end result from the beginning and calling those things that be not as though they were with spoken words:
“Declaring the end from the beginning.. Isaiah 46:10(a)”
“(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, [even] God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Romans 4:17″
God’s realm is infinitely abundant. Who has room to receive all of what God can provide? Thus the phrase “My cup runneth over.” Positioning one’s self to Receive God’s Supply is the issue.
Legalists Focus On Physical Lack and Demand Rather Than Spiritual Supply
People who have a ‘demand’ mentality focus only on what’s happening in this physical earth realm and either act as if the spirit world does not exist, or as if the spirit world has no bearing on this physical world. They focus on what’s missing, bear the weight of that demand and fail to see God’s supply which surpasses every demand.
‘Demand’ mentality people are in a fallen state; they are not under Grace and have no concept of God’s supply which flows from that Grace. They are under the Law which does nothing but constantly DEMAND in the physical realm, and under such Demand human failure is imminent. The Law shows us where we fall short and exists to remind us of our need for God.
Legalists can’t see God’s infinite supply that is able to overflow that which is missing! If they are lonely, they can’t see God supplying them with the needed companionship. If they are in lack, they can’t see God meeting that need.
If they are in poor health, they will go to a doctor for a pill that comes with a side-effect warning label rather than go for something natural that God already provided right in their kitchen cupboard; something that their body is genetically programmed by God to improve their health with (even if it’s something proven to work with no side effects by other doctors!)
“GRRRRR!!! FEED ME SEYMOUR!”
People with a ‘demand’ mentality are prone to be stressed out, sick, critical, judgmental, resentful, unforgiving and few people if anybody wants to be around them! Preachers that preach ‘law’ rather than grace actually run folk off rather than draw them in simply by losing focus on the CROSS.
Demanding Legalists are prone to be isolated hermits, have a hard time stopping to smell the roses in life, and according to Hebrews 12:15-16 those who have fallen from grace and have a ‘demand’ mentality are even likely to be sexually deviant.
People with a demand mentality often get pulled on from every which direction by others. They allow others to pull on them this way because they are locked into the ‘demand’ mode of people-pleasing; trying to meet everybody’s demands on their own strength sometimes even to their own peril.
They do this because they can’t see God supplying those other people’s needs; they feel they must be the one to meet their needs because they themselves are not relying on God that way, and thus won’t expect the people they are working so hard to please to rely on Him either.
These with the ‘demand’ mentality also have a hard time breaking out of this people-pleasing mode because as soon as they try, the parasites they’ve been enabling put guilt trips on them for drawing border lines which should have already been there.
They are prone to take on this guilt trip due to a slick and tricky thought implanted by the Enemy “Well, over and over again I’ve given them the impression I was ‘this’ all this time, and now I’m flippin’ into ‘that’ on them… I guess I do owe them…” –the people-pleasing mode based on Demand continues, and resentment rises to overflowing…
This is a major contributing factor as to why chronic people-pleasers get so bitter and have unforgiving hearts.
The Master Receiver vs. The Master With-holder
Grace people are God’s master-receivers and realize that with every miracle requested from God, God has a set of instructions for that miracle to be received. Since faith without works is dead, Grace people follow God’s instructions to receive what God has promised.
‘Demand’ people see nothing but lack and solely depend on their survival by physical means. They act as if what takes place in this physical world is the last say, and have no concept of changing what takes place in this physical world by getting God involved spiritually (such as by PRAYER: “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” or by planting a spiritual seed to reap a physical harvest).
Only the one who can SEE God can see God’s supply, and only the one who can see God’s supply can receive God’s supply. That ‘seeing’ is not done with physical eyes: by faith, acknowledge His presence in every situation, see His Supply of whatever it is you need, and follow His instructions on how to get it!
That visualization of the desired things HOPED for gets meditated on repeatedly in the mind of the one who is in tune with the reality of God’s supernatural abundance. Since every miracle from God comes with a set of instructions from God, we then apply all the natural practical steps God directs us to perform until those things desired manifest into physical reality.
Grace people recognize that God is constantly supplying and therefore, have no problem or at least much less of a problem with GIVING, while Demand people give stingily if at all due to their belief that things are always running out.
People with the ‘supply’ mentality are focused in on God, His grace, His love and seek to be like God (Christ-like) in this earth realm towards others: Givers.
The biggest conflict Jesus had during His ministry was with the Pharisee and Sadducee lawyers who had a ‘demand’ mentality and misrepresented His Father to God’s People.
In this life, it’s not hard to see who is who and what is what – if you know what to look for. Demanding control-freaks who are bitter, stressed out, impatient, unforgiving, judgmental, critical and selfish generally are under The Law and are mostly focused on what they don’t have from others, including the good behavior they think others should be doing – while not recognizing their own bad behavior in the process.
Such bitter ones rarely get better. They have no concept as to what forgiveness is about because their selfish demands won’t tolerate non-compliance; in essence they are a little ‘g’ god unto themselves.
Seeing yourself as being a Receiver of all things good from God and always having more than you need by God’s grace can literally change your entire life. It did mine! Remember:
Grace supplies, Love gives, builds & restores, Faith receives. The Law demands, Hate steals, kills & destroys, Fear withholds.
