News Release – December 29, 2010

Unrestrained Teenager Killed in Single Vehicle Crash

Bienville Parish – On December 29, 2010, at 3:20 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on LA 155 just south of LA 4 in Bienville Parish. The crash claimed the life of a 17-year-old teenager from Bienville, LA.

According to investigating troopers, 17-year-old Nicki N. Bolyer of Bienville and passenger, 18-year-old Dlarious J. Venzant of Saline, were both traveling north on LA 155 in a 2000 Pontiac Firebird when a deer entered the roadway. Bolyer swerved to avoid striking the deer and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned, and Bolyer was ejected.

Bolyer was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner.

Venzant was also unrestrained at the time of the crash but was not injured.

Routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation.

Troop G Troopers have investigated 41 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, which resulted in 47 fatalities.

Falling From Grace

Is The Glass Half Empty Or Half Full?

The reason one sees the glass half full while another sees it half empty is because the first has a ‘supply’ mentality & the other has a ‘lack’ mentality.  In The  Bible, The Law demands and highlights that which is MISSING. Grace supplies, meets every demand of life and goes beyond.  Falling from grace might not be what we think it is…

Every time one falls from grace, it’s not so much about committing a specific act of sin as it is about trying to accomplish a thing on one’s own effort; taking on the task as if SELF has to do something God can’t or won’t do (according to that one’s false perception about God).

A practicing Christian Atheist believes God is ‘out there’ somewhere, and if not consciously then at the very least sub-consciously he or she believes for all practical purposes God is uninvolved in his/her personal life.

Such an one attempts to live as if God doesn’t exist locally let alone inside one’s own body as the New Testament scriptures describe, and as a result fails to see by faith God’s rich abundance of everything ever needed or desired right in front of them.

The faith factor in this scenario is vital because God Himself is Spirit, they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, and the Eternal Supply He provides by His Grace is also invisible to the naked eye; that is until God’s Supply manifests into physical reality.

Grace People See What A Legalist Can’t

Everything physical began as spiritual.  Jesus said “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63″ and God said “Let There Be Light.”

Having been made in the image and likeness of God, Believers are to SPEAK OUT what they wish to SEE take place.

Therefore, the one who walks by faith recognizes their role to initiate everything desired in this physical world (the one God gave us dominion over) by performing due diligence in the spiritual realm: declaring the end result from the beginning and calling those things that be not as though they were with spoken words:

“Declaring the end from the beginning.. Isaiah 46:10(a)”

“(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, [even] God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Romans 4:17″

God’s realm is infinitely abundant. Who has room to receive all of what God can provide? Thus the phrase “My cup runneth over.” Positioning one’s self to Receive God’s Supply is the issue.

Legalists Focus On Physical Lack and Demand Rather Than Spiritual Supply

People who have a ‘demand’ mentality focus only on what’s happening in this physical earth realm and either act as if the spirit world does not exist, or as if the spirit world has no bearing on this physical world.  They focus on what’s missing, bear the weight of that demand and fail to see God’s supply which surpasses every demand.

‘Demand’ mentality people are in a fallen state; they are not under Grace and have no concept of God’s supply which flows from that Grace.  They are under the Law which does nothing but constantly DEMAND in the physical realm, and under such Demand human failure is imminent.  The Law shows us where we fall short and exists to remind us of our need for God.

Legalists can’t see God’s infinite supply that is able to overflow that which is missing!  If they are lonely, they can’t see God supplying them with the needed companionship.  If they are in lack, they can’t see God meeting that need.

If they are in poor health, they will go to a doctor for a pill that comes with a side-effect warning label rather than go for something natural that God already provided right in their kitchen cupboard; something that their body is genetically programmed by God to improve their health with (even if it’s something proven to work with no side effects by other doctors!)

“GRRRRR!!!  FEED ME SEYMOUR!”

People with a ‘demand’ mentality are prone to be stressed out, sick, critical, judgmental, resentful, unforgiving and few people if anybody wants to be around them!  Preachers that preach ‘law’ rather than grace actually run folk off rather than draw them in simply by losing focus on the CROSS.

Demanding Legalists are prone to be isolated hermits, have a hard time stopping to smell the roses in life, and according to Hebrews 12:15-16 those who have fallen from grace and have a ‘demand’ mentality are even likely to be sexually deviant.

People with a demand mentality often get pulled on from every which direction by others.  They allow others to pull on them this way because they are locked into the ‘demand’ mode of people-pleasing; trying to meet everybody’s demands on their own strength sometimes even to their own peril.

They do this because they can’t see God supplying those other people’s needs; they feel they must be the one to meet their needs because they themselves are not relying on God that way, and thus won’t expect the people they are working so hard to please to rely on Him either.

These with the ‘demand’ mentality also have a hard time breaking out of this people-pleasing mode because as soon as they try, the parasites they’ve been enabling put guilt trips on them for drawing border lines which should have already been there.

They are prone to take on this guilt trip due to a slick and tricky thought implanted by the Enemy “Well, over and over again I’ve given them the impression I was ‘this’ all this time, and now I’m flippin’ into ‘that’ on them… I guess I do owe them…” –the people-pleasing mode based on Demand continues, and resentment rises to overflowing…

This is a major contributing factor as to why chronic people-pleasers get so bitter and have unforgiving hearts.

The Master Receiver vs. The Master With-holder

Grace people are God’s master-receivers and realize that with every miracle requested from God, God has a set of instructions for that miracle to be received.  Since faith without works is dead, Grace people follow God’s instructions to receive what God has promised.

‘Demand’ people see nothing but lack and solely depend on their survival by physical means.  They act as if what takes place in this physical world is the last say, and have no concept of changing what takes place in this physical world by getting God involved spiritually (such as by PRAYER: “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” or by planting a spiritual seed to reap a physical harvest).

Only the one who can SEE God can see God’s supply, and only the one who can see God’s supply can receive God’s supply. That ‘seeing’ is not done with physical eyes: by faith, acknowledge His presence in every situation, see His Supply of whatever it is you need, and follow His instructions on how to get it!

That visualization of the desired things HOPED for gets meditated on repeatedly in the mind of the one who is in tune with the reality of God’s supernatural abundance.  Since every miracle from God comes with a set of instructions from God,  we then apply all the natural practical steps God directs us to perform until those things desired manifest into physical reality.

Grace people recognize that God is constantly supplying and therefore, have no problem or at least much less of a problem with GIVING, while Demand people give stingily if at all due to their belief that things are always running out.

Conclusion:

People with the ‘supply’ mentality are focused in on God, His grace, His love and seek to be like God (Christ-like) in this earth realm towards others: Givers.

The biggest conflict Jesus had during His ministry was with the Pharisee and Sadducee lawyers who had a ‘demand’ mentality and misrepresented His Father to God’s People.

In this life, it’s not hard to see who is who and what is what – if you know what to look for.  Demanding control-freaks who are bitter, stressed out, impatient, unforgiving, judgmental, critical and selfish generally are under The Law and are mostly focused on what they don’t have from others, including the good behavior they think others should be doing – while not recognizing their own bad behavior in the process.

Such bitter ones rarely get better. They have no concept as to what forgiveness is about because their selfish demands won’t tolerate non-compliance; in essence they are a little ‘g’ god unto themselves.

Seeing yourself as being a Receiver of all things good from God and always having more than you need by God’s grace can literally change your entire life.  It did mine!  Remember:

Grace supplies, Love gives, builds & restores, Faith receives.  The Law demands, Hate steals, kills & destroys, Fear withholds.

7 Reactions Which Expose The Character Of Others

Good Seed Can’t Change Bad Soil

I used to believe you couldn’t really know a person until you lived with them or worked with them for a long period of time.  That’s because I wasn’t aware of my own need or God-given ability to test the soil: I wasn’t aware of ways to find out what kind of people they were without fully investing my life into them.

The soil is as important as the seed.  We can’t change anybody!  Look at how Judas and John were both under Jesus’ ministry – Jesus poured himself into the lives of both, but one was bad soil.

Lesson Learned & Still Learning: Good seed planted in bad soil will not change that soil, but only reveal whether that soil is fertile or sterile: Same is true when we invest our T.I.M.E. (Time Influence Money Energy) into the lives of others…

Lord, Grant Me The Wisdom To Know The Difference Of People & Situations That I Can And Cannot Change!

Wisdom is the study of difference, and James 1 says “If any man lack wisdom, let Him ask of God”  Sounds to me like God wants us to know His Wisdom; that door is wide open and if we don’t enter that open door we really don’t want to be in there.

I found out that We don’t have to spend years and years investing our time, influence, money and energy into somebody just to discover their heart.  The last time I spent years and years doing that, I got the shock of my life and I don’t like unpleasant surprises!

For those who know me personally, don’t bother trying to figure out who I’m talking about, it doesn’t matter because whoever I’m talking about they are still God’s children Whom He loves very much and so do I; the fault is not theirs but mine over and over again for not exercising proper wisdom, and I’m tired of the pain associated with butting my head against the wall!

Your Inner Circle

When it comes to our inner circle of people we associate with; those who we allow to be close and even intimate with us in personal relationships, business relationships, neighbors, friends, etc. (those whom we form covenants with)–>  We need to assess the soil we are planting ourselves into, evaluate the results of our efforts, study the results of our investments – we must study the reactions of others.

The following are biblical principles as shared by Dr. Mike Murdock, one of several uncommon mentors of whom I am a protege.  As a scaffold to this Note, the questions are Dr. Mike’s and the comments following are what I prayerfully discerned from studying his material.

7 Reactions That Expose Or Reveal The Character Of Others

Studying these 7 reactions in others will blow your mind, and show you how to see red, yellow and green traffic lights when it comes to letting others get close!  These are ways to help test the soil before you plant, and I know from experience that applying these principles will save the one using them much time, frustration, and help prevent the unnecessary pain associated with having unrealistic expectations on others.

1) What are their reactions to the laws of God, the Word of God?

Is it wise to trust somebody who doesn’t make the Word of God and their obedience to God their number one priority?

Do they pay tithes to the Lord’s ministry, believe in pro-life vs. abortion, abstain from inappropriate relationships and gossip, exercise wisdom? Do they worship God, have a prayer life, talk to God and about God spontaneously without you prompting them?

If they do not live by biblical standards, if they show a disinterest and lack of trust in God how far should you show interest and trust them?  Should a young single man who loves the Lord get with a common woman who wants sex before marriage?

Show me who you associate with, and I’ll get a picture of your character and your wisdom.

2) What is their reaction to authority?

We want to know what kind of relationship they have or had with their parents, boss, pastor, etc. what is their view of law enforcement and government? Do they sneer at the chain of authority God has established on the earth?

I met a woman once who I really liked and still like.  Back then, I was checking her out to evaluate whether she would be a potential candidate for a closer relationship and one day the discussion of her father came up.

Having just met me, the first words she was willing to leave impressed on my mind about her father was that he was a “wussed-out wimp.”  Even though this was her reality and she was hurt by her experiences with him, the odor of dishonor gave me an unmistakable clue as to why things weren’t going well in her life.

Despite his faults and failures (which we all have to some degree or another), it was clear to me why this woman was struggling in her finances and other areas of her life.

The first commandment with a promise came in the 10 Commandments when God said “Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Deuteronomy 5:16″

We are not responsible for how others treat us, but how we respond to them. (I’ll refer to this same incident in principle #7 below.) What kind of honor do they believe in showing those in authority, parents and elder relatives, government officials, the laws of the land, traffic laws, etc.?

In your quest to live an honorable life and to show honor where honor is due, your success will depend on others you associate with; do you want somebody who is ‘anti-honor’ in your inner circle?

3)  What is their reaction to past favor?

David had a love for his favorite child Absalom, but Absalom scorned his father’s love and did not appreciate David’s mentorship. Meanwhile, David’s other son Solomon learned all he could and became King after his father. Check out the prodigal son who got sick and tired being under his father’s leadership and provision while the older brother stayed home protected and did not lose his substance.

Somebody has blessed us and invested in our lives. How have we treated those who’ve been good to us?  Gratitude is a BIG deal with God.  Gratitude is the seed for receiving more and an ungrateful heart is the seed for lack.  Romans 1 teaches us that God turns people over to a reprobate mind because they refuse to give Him thanks and glorify Him, and all kinds of iniquity are the result of God withdrawing Himself from those who don’t appreciate Him.

Our reaction to God’s unmerited favor (His Grace) towards us determines whether we receive more of it or not; attitude decides access.  If we are ungrateful, God withdraws Himself from us and if we are careful to show gratitude towards Him, we don’t want to be in covenant with somebody who is working a counter-agenda.

4) What is their response to the voice of a proven Mentor?

Somebody helped us get where we are: father, mother, teacher, pastor somebody who has invested in our life- what is our reaction to their love, their pains, their losses, their lack and their persecutions?

Right in line with #3 above: What is their response to a mentor who is constantly working to renew their mind, intercede to God on their behalf and doing their part to hold back the darkness in their lives? Can a PRICE even be placed on such a gift?

Do we celebrate the gift of Mentorship in our lives?  If we do, then and only then will we be able to properly discern if the person we’re considering to let get close to us qualifies.

You appreciate God’s Word being taught and preached by a God-sent Mentor because you understand that God’s thoughts and His ways are as high above human thoughts and human ways as the heavens are above the earth; but the one you’re with couldn’t care less? (Check yourself before you wreck yourself Baby!)

The Bible teaches “Be not deceived: evil communications (relationships) corrupt good manners. I Corinthians 15:33″ It’s just like a little roach corrupting the entire bowl full of cereal. We don’t want unequally yoked relationships with others walking in the opposite direction; they will surely bring conflict in the midst of our intimate love-walk with God.

5) What is their reaction to an instruction?

Let’s break this down in the simplest, shortest and sweetest way possible.  An instruction will reveal their passion or lack of passion; whether they are on-board with your agenda or not, and disinterest is a conversation about their character – not just their willingness or competence.

The Bible says that a person’s response to an instruction reveals whether they are wise or a fool.  “When somebody shows you who they really are, believe them.  Believe them.” –Dr. Mike Murdock

Our Purpose For Living Can Be Found Here: “Out of heaven He made thee to hear His voice, that He might instruct thee” Deuteronomy 4:36(a)

An instruction is an invitation to explain who we really are: reaction to an instruction reveals: intelligence, knowledge of leadership (how one fits in the chain of command), competence, caring, passion and character (humility or arrogance).

6) What is their response to an opportunity?

What happens when we stop enabling people by making things easy on them all the time and we give them an opportunity to change, an opportunity to learn something new, an opportunity to sow a seed of something they already have in order to reap a much needed harvest for themselves?

Some want money, but aren’t willing to work for it.  Some have money and need more money, but won’t sow a seed into God’s ministry to reap a hundred-fold harvest that Jesus promised according to Mark 10:30 (Yes, that’s a 100 fold return on whatever has been donated! Read God’s promise for yourself!)

God is SERIOUS about providing opportunity! Look at the biblical examples of God sending Jonah to Nineveh for them to repent of their sins, a city of over 120,000 at that time.

Jesus hung between two thieves and in their dying breaths one grabbed hold of the opportunity to receive eternal life.  God constantly provides opportunities to change, to be be mentored, to experience the abundance in Life He promised us.

An opportunity is an invitation to an experience. What is the response to an opportunity presented, is it even RECOGNIZED as an opportunity?

If we are in the habit of carefully evaluating moments of opportunity, then and only then will we be able to discern the ability and willingness of others to do the same.

There’s no sense in being with somebody who refuses to recognize and take full advantage of golden opportunities when it’s your heart’s desire to do so.  If you have an extreme hunger for and interest in God’s Word, and the one you’re considering a closer walk with has very little or no interest in the same; Know where they’re coming from ahead of time – Watch And Pray.

7)  What is their reaction to correction?

A vital factor in determining whether somebody should be close to you or not is their reaction to correction. Are they defiant?  Do they just want to justify without receiving correction?  Are they demanding how that correction should come to them?

Dr. Murdock says “Correction is a gift; an opportunity to be restored, to recover, to change.”  When somebody corrects us, it’s their investment into our lives; the way we honor that investment decides our future, and reveals our character.

In principle #2 above, I mentioned a conversation I had with a woman who dishonored her father;  one of many women I have had such conversations with.  She was holding bitterness, resentment and unforgiveness towards her father, plus she bad-mouthed him to me (a preacher who has never met him) in an attempt to make me feel the same way she felt about him.

I run into this situation often and because of my understanding of biblical protocol, I immediately understood how to begin reversing her situation.  I wanted to help her heal and move beyond that which was holding her back, and was quickly reminded you can’t bless what God has cursed and you can’t curse what God has blessed.

When I talked to her about looking beyond her father’s faults, loving him unconditionally, forgiving him and honoring him anyway in order to set herself free and position herself to STOP poverty and receive prosperity, like many others before and after her, she argued rather than received.

Right then, I got a picture of her character and a preview of what a closer walk with her would be like.  It’s not to say she was a bad person unworthy of my association, but only an indication as to how close I should let her get…

Our parents are the first decision God made about us entering this earth realm; When we honor them, we honor HIM!  Even though I sowed good seed, I could not change her life – that is something she had to want for herself.

I heard the story of a person saying,’You mean I should honor my father who raped my mother and I was born from that?’ The response was “YES! Where there was a thorn, God left a rose, and that rose was YOU!”

Dr. Murdock teaches and it is my belief as well, that if we honor somebody the way God instructs us to honor a parent or some other person in God-ordained authority despite the way they dogged us out, mistreated us, neglected us, etc. –God will respect that HONOR and He will appreciate and reward our obedience even more than the ones who never had to go through what we went through; it’s only a test.

What is the response to correction?  We can’t push anybody beyond their willingness to be corrected. Study the people around you and see how far they will be able to grow, change and expand in your relationship.

Know the people you’re getting close to or are already close to. Again, this is not to judge or condemn anybody – but simply to observe where they are: People can not grow without obeying an instruction.

Conclusion:

These 7 steps are not meant to be all-inclusive.  In other words there are many other ways to discern who should and should NOT be in our inner circle, but these seven ways will get us off to a GREAT start.

With the understanding that we all have areas we need to grow in, without judging or condemning people we need to evaluate them closely without challenging them about where they are – just OBSERVE and take note.

Then talk to the Lord about what we see to find out what He has to say about their level of trustworthiness and what level they should be invested in or whether they should be invested in at all.  God may have a purpose for somebody who is completely untrustworthy being in your life: Jesus allowed Judas in the circle of 12 but not His inner circle of 3 (Peter, James & John).

There can still be something valuable in somebody God doesn’t want you to get too close to, and some people we need to stay away from like the plague that they are!  We need God’s wisdom to recognize what’s gift-wrapped in a moment; We need God’s wisdom to know the difference of things that exist right in front of us.

In this world of deception, deceivers and master-deceivers, we need a fool-proof way to expose the real character of others and even evaluate our own character to eliminate our own flaws:

Know God For Yourself, Talk To Him OFTEN, Listen For His Voice, Learn His Principles, Study Your Bible.

Is Envy More Important Than Prosperity?

Is envy more important than prosperity?

The death tax punishes the very behavior that defines the economic heart and soul of American prosperity.

A Note From Star Parker, founder and president of CURE

Congressman Anthony Weiner is making a name for himself.

The New York Democrat wants taxes raised on wealthy Americans and is one of the more vocal opponents to the deal that would retain current tax rates for everyone.

“An estate tax cut for millionaires adds exactly zero jobs. A tax cut for billionaires — virtually none,” says Weiner.

But what does Weiner know about job creation, about work, about being an entrepreneur?

Looking over his resume, you see he’s never held a private sector job.

Right out of college, he went to work on the staff of then-Congressmen Chuck Schumer, followed by six years serving on New York’s city council, and then ran for congress in 1999, capturing the seat he currently holds.

Mr. Weiner is a politically ambitious young man who has built power and career by confiscating and redistributing other people’s money.

Consider that the wealthy are that Weiner wants to punish.

Thomas Stanley and William Danko wrote a book called “The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America’s Wealthy”.

They produced a portrait of who America’s millionaires are and show that by and large these are quiet, understated, self-reliant Americans who are committed to hard work, education, and family.

Their portrait shows that 80 percent of our millionaires are first generation affluent, that less than half received a cent in inheritance funds, and only 19 percent get any income from a trust fund or estate.

Most Americans – 80 percent — are not self-employed. But of those that are, two thirds are our millionaires.

Seventy five percent of these self-employed millionaires are entrepreneurs and the remaining quarter is self-employed professionals like doctors and accountants.

These are overwhelmingly self-made individuals, by large are founders and proprietors of prosaic businesses like “welding contractors, auctioneers, rice farmers, owners of mobile-home parks, pest controllers, coin and stamp dealers and paving contractors.”

Sure, we have high-profile billionaires in America. But most of America’s millionaires, those whose income is in the $250,000 and above category whose taxes Weiner wants to raise, are our nation’s bread and butter entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Regarding the estate tax, or what has come to be known as the death tax, it is probably, of all the ways in which our government takes revenue, the most immoral.

As noted, 80 percent of millionaires are first generation and two thirds are entrepreneurs. The death tax punishes the very behavior that defines the economic heart and soul of American prosperity.

But perhaps worse, it attacks our most important social institution — the American family.

A recent Pew Research Center/Time Magazine report shows the collapse over the last half century of the traditional American family.

Today 52 percent of adult Americans are married compared to 72 percent in 1960. Forty one percent of our babies today are born to unwed mothers compared to five percent in 1960.

It was once a given in our nation that there were inviolable truths that precede government. Once most believed that one of those truths was the integrity of the American family.

The death tax tells us that that government now supersedes family. That politicians like Anthony Weiner can go inside of a family and confiscate the wealth that a breadwinner has accumulated over a lifetime of hard work and prevent parents from freely passing the fruits of their labor on to their children.

Three of four Americans say that the country today is on the wrong track.

The key question today is where we want to go and what it takes to get there.

If we want to get back to prosperity, then it should be axiomatic that protecting freedom, entrepreneurship and family is the answer. Not the politics of power and envy.

Happy Belated Birthday Jesus!

“We meant well Jesus, but unfortunately we just didn’t understand…”

Most of us are so locked into celebrating Christmas according to our traditions, it really doesn’t matter what anybody else says about the idol worship of trees (O Christmas Tree, NO Christmas Tree?) or what the research reveals about the actual timing of Jesus’ birth.  But for those who are serious about their walk with God and want to know the Truth, the following article may simply blow your mind!

The Bible Reveals When Jesus Was Born!

by Judah’s Daughter

When was Jesus Born?

The Christmas story found in the Holy Bible (Luke 2) is cherished by all Christians. The birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ is the most important event in history, next to the day of His resurrection.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was the ‘firstborn of the new creation’ (Luke 1:35; Col 1:15) and ‘firstborn of the dead’ (Col 1:18; Rev 1:5). Likewise, we are born of the flesh, then born of the Spirit (John 3:6-7; 2 Cor 5:17), and will be raised from the dead (Rom 8:11). This is the miraculous gospel of salvation.

While multitudes around the world celebrate “Christmas”, whether they focus on Saint Nicholas (aka Santa Claus) and/or the birth of Jesus Christ, all Christians know Jesus was not born on December 25th.   This date was established by the Roman Catholic church in approximately 360 AD, when they held a special mass to honor Christ, while the pagan world celebrated Saturnalia, a feast honoring the birth of their sun god.  This eventually became known as “Christ-Mass”.

Beware Of The Electronic PickPocket

What’s In Your Wallet?

The following link provides you the opportunity to see the latest technology being used to record credit and debit card numbers with their respective expiration dates and even passports using what’s known as RFID technology simply by somebody carrying a disguised proximity scanner and walking next to a person without touching them.

All the perpetrator has to do is get the device close enough to one’s purse or pocket, and that information gets stored for an easy computer download.  There is a remedy to the situation, but you must be aware of what type of electronic card you’re carrying.

Tragic Start To Christmas Season: Slow Down & Buckle Up

Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent

HEADQUARTERS- NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release – December 6, 2010

Tragic Start to Christmas Season

Baton Rouge – The Christmas Season is off to a tragic start as the Louisiana State Police investigated numerous fatalities over the weekend.  Troopers worked twelve fatal crashes resulting in 13 deaths between Saturday and Sunday.

“This is not the way to begin the Christmas Season.  It was as if every time my phone rang this weekend, I was being notified of another family’s loss,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent.  “I am very concerned.  We are asking for the public’s help.  Louisiana is experiencing a historic low in highway deaths and we want this trend to continue.  Our message is clear: buckle up, restrain your children and never drive impaired.”

This weekend’s deadly crashes are on the heels of a Thanksgiving holiday with a 62% reduction in deaths and a Labor Day holiday in which the Louisiana State Police did not work a single fatality statewide.

The Louisiana State Police will continue its efforts to reduce deaths and injuries on Louisiana highways through enforcement and education.  Troop Commanders have been directed to coordinate proactive enforcement operations targeting impaired drivers, aggressive drivers and individuals who choose not to wear their seatbelt.

The public can help by reporting suspicious or dangerous highway activity by calling *LSP (*577).  Public Information Officers (PIO) will continue to share our safety message with the public though direct contact and the use of our media partners.  If the public is interested in having a Trooper speak at an event, meeting or school, please contact the Public Affairs Unit.  PIO contact information can be found at http://lsp.org/public.html.
