The LSU AgCenter’s Bienville Parish Extension Office located in Arcadia, LA offers the only workforce training for teens throughout the entire LSU System, and every summer teens actually get paid minimum wage to learn workforce preparation skills! The LSU AgCenter is a statewide campus of the Louisiana State University System and provides equal opportunities in programs and employment.

Called Jurors Empowering Teens, (J.E.T.) the six-week program is a joint venture between the LSU AgCenter and the Beinville Parish Police Jury. The program not only provides first time employment experience, but also focused on the development of financial management skills and workforce ethics.

During two weeks of the program, the young people are in a classroom setting, learning about workforce preparation, financial management, and character education. Four weeks are spent in the workplace learning about a variety of careers.

This program is an example of how the LSU AgCenter is working with it’s partners in communities across the state to increase workforce literacy. The suggested audiences are High School Youth in Bienville Parish ages 16 and older. The program may be offered in other parishes where funding is available.

There is an application and interview process to participate, as a limited number of teens are selected for the program. Last year (2009) 21 slots for students were made available, but only 18 students applied. Applications for the 2010 J.E.T. summer session will be made available in mid to late April. For more information, call the Bienville Parish Extension Office at 318.263.7400

The free “Grambling Health Seminar Like No Other” featuring TV show host and author Doug Kaufmann of “KNOW THE CAUSE” and his team of scientists including Cardiac Pharmacologist and physician, Roby Mitchell, PhD, MD and General Practitioner, Lynn Jennings, MD has been re-scheduled from 4/10 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday April 24th 2010.

According to this unique team of researchers, FUNGUS has been identified by the Bible and confirmed by science to be the physical root cause of the following ailments: ALL cancers, diabetes, high blood pressure/cholesterol, auto-immune diseases, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease and many more.

Now, when a doctor says that ‘no scientists have been able to disprove these assertions’ we must know this is worth our while to attend!

They discuss how we unknowingly swallow fungus and fungal poisons (mycotoxins) in certain commonly contaminated foods, alcohol & antibiotics (which ARE mycotoxins), and how we inhale fungus by entering ’sick’ buildings, breathing in dust from the ground and sand that is contaminated with fungus etc.

It’s not very often that doctors like these team up to lecture the general public and answer questions from the floor for FREE – so please take full advantage of this wonderful opportunity and spread the word to everybody you know – it’s that important.

According to the testimonies of those who follow their advice, the information shared and the advice offered by these medical professionals to starve and kill fungus in the human body via diet, exercise, anti-fungal prescription meds and specific natural nutrients has saved countless thousands of lives for over 30 years.

For more information you may review additional articles in the Health & Nutrition section of The Fount. REGISTRATION instructions can be found by clicking here.

Be Immensely Blessed!

Many people suffer from chronic illnesses that are said to be incurable, but Jesus healed every single person who ever asked Him to. So then, why are Believers sicker than ever and dying at such early ages? Did you know that God said in Genesis 6:3 that we should be living at least 120 years? And yet hardly anybody lives to be that age. WHY?

Some people in their hearts really don’t believe God wants them to be healed and live that long, and they believe in their hearts that their ailments are incurable. And based on their belief in what Man says average life expectancy should be (70-80 years) people succumb to those very notions which are contrary to God’s Word and His will for our lives.

Yes, you can be healed already – God wants you to be healed and made whole to live an abundant, prosperous, vibrant and productive life for His glory!

From heaven itself, God placed plants, vegetables and herbs in the earth as sources of life for the human frame BEFORE He placed mankind in the earth, and He programmed our genetic code to respond to these vital nutrients that grow out of the earth. But mankind has outsmarted himself trying to re-create the healing power of God by concocting sterile synthetic substances that only treat symptoms and cause more side effects.

As a health evangelist, it is my duty to expose the truth and encourage Believers to go BACK to God’s way to gain, regain and sustain health in these physical bodies. According to God’s Word, by the stripes of Jesus we have been healed already:
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. I Peter 2:24″

If you believe what God has to say about your healing, and follow through with specific instructions He lays down for you, because of the fact that He is faithful and unable to lie, YOU must be healed!

To examine this issue further, please refer to our Health & Nutrition page entitled: “Healed Already”

If you believe that God is the ultimate healer, and that He designed our bodies to heal themselves, then you will want to check out the page found in The Fount’s Health & Nutrition Section entitled: Thrive And Survive ANYWAY!

One of the most overlooked causes of disease in this country and around the world is fungus, and it is wreaking havoc on our bodies from the inside out, from head to toe, organ to organ, from bone to skin and is causing cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, cystic fibrosis, high cholesterol, Alzheimer’s and a plethora of other conditions in the human frame.

In this article, we identify fungal contamination in certain foods, we disclose the fact fungus produces substances known as mycotoxins (fungal poisons), that alcohol IS a mycotoxin, that antibiotics are created from mycotoxins and that we open our mouths wide and consume these dangerous substances unknowingly.

But there is HOPE! There are naturalistic doctors who ’switched sides’ from the medical and pharmaceutical establishment as well as nutrition researchers and dietitians who are teaching us how to protect ourselves by outlining what it really means to ‘eat right’ as they point to specific foods and herbs that kill fungal and pathogenic invaders.

One such nutrition researcher named Doug Kaufmann hosts a television show entitled “Know The Cause” and we are doing our best to share his eye-opening work. On April 10, 2010 Mr. Kaufmann and his crew will be conducting a free health seminar in Grambling, LA and we are very grateful for his pioneering efforts.

The following article was forwarded to The Fount from the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team (DART) located in Ruston, Louisiana

Are you the parent of someone between the ages of 11 and 18? Does your son or daughter have a boyfriend or girlfriend? How much do you know about their relationship?

Most caring and involved parents would say that they make it their business to know what is going on in the dating life of their tween (ages 11-14) or teen (ages 15-18). And yet a recent article on About.com, a NY Times website devoted to women’s issues, reported a very eye-opening series of facts about teen dating violence. This information may be crucial for parents of young people in this age range – 6th -12th grade. With the first week of February being designated as National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week, I thought this would be a very timely topic for DART’s monthly column.

The first report I read on About.com was about teens. The study states that one in five high school girls has been physically abused by a dating partner, but dating violence among their peers is reported by 54% of high school students. This means that while only 20% of high school girls are reporting abuse, over half of high school students know that it is happening to their friends. The abuse witnessed includes punching, slapping, kicking, and choking.

As a person who has been passionate about the issue of domestic and dating violence for over thirty years, these facts, though disturbing, were not news to me. However, the last two statements on the website revealed new information that was even more disturbing.

The first was that nearly 80% of teen-age girls who have been victims of physical abuse in their dating relationships continue to date their abuser. This fact has me wondering whether parents, even loving and involved ones, are truly aware of what is going on in the dating lives of their sons and daughters. I can’t help but believe that if a parent knew that their daughter’s boyfriend – or son’s girlfriend – was abusing them, they would not permit them to date again. So it comes back to my original question to parents of teens: how much do you know about their dating relationships?

The last fact on this particular website stated that the majority of teen dating abuse occurs in the home of one of the partners. Think about this. This means that when your teen is in the den with a boyfriend or girlfriend, and you are in the kitchen preparing dinner, right there in your own home, abuse may be taking place.

All of the above information related to teens. Now let me share what I learned about violence and abuse in the dating relationships of tweens. According to this study, 62% of tweens know someone who has been verbally abused by a boyfriend or girlfriend, while 36% know someone who has been pressured to do something they did not want to do.

The most shocking part of this article was the fact that tweens who engage in sexual behavior are far more likely to experience abuse in their dating relationships. For those who have had sex by age 14, the statistics are appalling. 69% of them say that they have experienced at least one kind of abuse in their relationship. 61% report being put down or verbally abused, while 34% report physical abuse. But sexual abuse in this age group should concern us even more. 36% of the tweens reported that they were pressured to have oral sex when they didn’t want to, and 34% reported that they were pressured to have sexual intercourse when they didn’t want to. These statistics were almost cut in half in groups who waited longer to have a sexual relationship. The same questions were asked of teens who waited to have sex until ages 17-18, and incidents of abuse were less than half the numbers reported above.

Another part of this study indicated that 67% of tweens are willing to discuss their relationships with their mother. However, that number falls to 49% with teens. This makes a strong argument for parents of tweens and teens to sit down and talk to their kids. They need to have open conversations about dating, about violence, and about sexuality. The longer parents wait, the more they will be “out of the loop” with their child. Parents of tweens often state that their child is too young to have a conversation about dating, abuse, and sexuality. Yet this study also pointed out that while 67% of parents of tweens say they are very aware of what is going on in their child’s dating relationships, only 51% of the tweens interviewed agreed.

DART can make the start of this dialogue a lot easier. We have programs on Teen Dating Violence that we can bring to schools, to church youth groups, to area clubs and organizations, to sports teams, or to other group events. This information, though difficult to talk about, could change the lives of our young people and prevent abuse from occurring in their relationships. Give DART a call (318) 513-9373 and set up a time for our community advocate to come and speak to your group. Remember – communication is the beginning of change. Let us team up with you to make that happen, for the sake of our teens and the families they will one day have.

“It’s another day’s journey, and I’m GLAD! I’m glad, I’m so glad! I’m so glad to be here!” These are the words to a well-known song in Black churches all across the country. On this the first holiday in 2010 hopefully people of all races, nationalities and religions are willing to celebrate God’s goodness and express great appreciation for another day’s journey He has provided us all.

This is especially true as we turn to the local and international news and see images of war in the Middle East, and earthquake devastation in Haiti. When we consider how blessed we really are – our personal problems and issues seem quite trivial compared to the real suffering others are going through around the world.

As we pause for a moment in acknowledgment of this great American hero, please leave a comment and name 1 thing how you believe Dr. King changed your life personally, and/or name 1 thing how he impacted the world. What is Dr. King’s most significant contribution to you personally?

Allow me to start this off by saying as a young child growing up, I was inspired to see a Black minister not only preach the sacrificial and unconditional love of God, but we saw him practice what he preached even to the point of being wiling to die for it.

Some of my old seminary instructors who were also Black unfairly ridiculed and criticized Dr. King for ‘leaving the pulpit’ and getting involved in civil rights/social issues, and even had the gall to say that because he died in the process of helping garbage workers – that Dr. King died in disgrace.

It is these same seminary instructors who were trying to impress upon us young ministers that our first obligation is to God, and that if we were going to be preachers in God’s church- never leave the pulpit because this is what can happen.

Believe me when I say this, those particular preachers/seminary instructors paid dearly – not so much for what they said, but because of the judgmental and carnal mindset they held which led them to say such ludicrous things.

For the record, I never accepted what they said because I knew the scriptures were very clear on the fact that the thrust of Jesus’ ministry was not in the temple – but in the streets amongst those whom the religious leaders of that day deemed ’sinful.’

In those days, we were not allowed to voice opposition or even comment during class because as students, we were taught to sit and receive what was being taught. That’s that typical ‘pecking order’ mentality that some senior preachers like to put on junior preachers because they are more concerned about the ‘lower’ preachers obeying them than they are about them obeying God – (a whole other topic!!)

While some students got chewed up and spit out for disobeying this rule, the Lord allowed me to hold my peace and He told me to watch and pray. I did just that, and over the years God enabled me to observe the rise and the crash and burn of those preachers’ ministries.

Some of them slipped off into modernity, others into iniquity and God revealed that He fired certain ministers without them even knowing it. Now that’s a bad place to be – like the mighty Sampson – to believe the power and presence of God is with you when indeed He is not!

I’m not saying they are bad people, just lost in their theology. What they didn’t grasp and were actually teaching against was the fact – that like God Himself, Dr. King was not a people-pleaser; he was no respecter of persons, and whoever needed help, he was willing to do his absolute best for them as God laid that burden to do so on his heart.

Ministers are not kings or celebrities, and God’s people in the Church don’t belong to them. We are God’s servants who serve God by serving His people for His purposes and not our own, according to God’s design and not the expectations of ANY man. And we especially can’t afford to look down on anybody for the life they lead because that’s a boomerang we don’t want coming back!

Though Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. be physically dead, his life of Love and personal sacrifice still speaks: “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. Hebrews 11:4″

A Christ-like Servant

Dr. King was a man with faults just like the rest of us, yet that which he did for Christ lasts forever. I pray each of you stick to the convictions God has placed on your heart no matter what the religious naysayers say, because the persecution and ridicule they put on you will all fade away in the end and they will end up LOOKING UP at what God is doing through you!

Many Blessings Abound To The Faithful!

Why Is The Christmas Tree An Idol?

Why would God consider a decorated tree to be an idol? Why is that offensive to Him? A tree is a source of provision that He created to meet the needs of mankind in several ways. Trees provide oxygen, beauty, wood, paper, food, medicine, and the list goes on and on.

When it comes to Christmas trees, people typically believe they are worshiping or honoring God’s Son Jesus Christ by decorating trees and placing gifts for loved ones underneath them.

But why did God say “learn not the way of the heathen” (heathen are pagan unbelievers who worship false gods), and then describe their practice of cutting down trees, fastening them to stand upright and decorating them in Jeremiah 10?

“Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven: for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the wormkman, with the ax. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. Jeremiah 10:2-4″

Cutting a tree down in order to decorate it and place wrapped presents under it removes that tree from the purpose God intended for it, and when people kneel before it to receive gifts that tree did not provide – this is FALSE worship and God is not pleased with His children performing such acts.

Singing to the inanimate tree is also offensive to Him. Consider the words to O Christmas Tree:

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely
Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely
Each year you bring to me delight, meaning in the Christmas night
Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, with faithful leaves unchanging
Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, with faithful leaves unchanging
Your boughs are green, in summers glow and do not fade in winters snow
Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, with faithful leaves unchanging

Each year you bring to me delight, meaning in the Christmas night
Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely

Singing such a song may seem harmless and no big deal. This is the humanistic viewpoint however, and God is not pleased because He alone is our provider. He wants to be the center of our attention because He alone is worthy.

He made it quite clear to us in His Word that He is a jealous God and He hates idol worship. Students of the Bible know that throughout the Bible, God turns people’s idols against them unless they repent.

However, most students of the Bible seem to be completely unfamiliar with Jeremiah 10 where God warns His people not to set up and decorate trees with silver and gold the way people do at Christmas time. There are many ways to honor the birth of God’s Son without disobeying Him.

“But I’m not worshiping the tree I set up!” I hear this argument a whole lot, and the ones who say it probably are sincere because I believe them when they say they love God more than the tree. If the Believer is worshiping the tree, by definition they are not a true Believer but a pagan idol worshiper. The problem isn’t about a Believer worshiping the tree when they set it up, the offense or trespass is setting up the tree itself.

Even if Believers are not worshiping the decorated trees that they set up, by definition they in fact have followed the exact same practice of the heathen unbelievers who do so.

The phrase “learn not the way of the heathen” means we are NOT to do what they do – even if it feels or looks harmless and fun to us. Being holy like God is holy means we are set apart, we are DIFFERENT, we don’t do the things that heathen unbelievers do.

If it looks like a duck, quacks waddles and has feathers like a duck, most reasonable people will conclude ‘it’s a duck.’ We as Believers are not to do things that have the appearance of sin because we bear the responsibility of not being a stumbling block to others.

Even if we are not worshiping the Christmas tree, what could possibly justify us doing something that LOOKS like something God says is sin? If we are so sensitive about idol worship and dead-set against it the way God is, why would we turn around and do something that has the appearance of idol worship to those who are on the outside looking in?

That line of reasoning is not logical or intelligent. How do we take something God defines as sin, and make it acceptable? None of us are in a position to re-define something God classifies as sin. This is so simple that only those minds which have been blinded by Satan will miss it.

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24″

Worshiping God in spirit is important to Him because He is a spirit being and so are we. Worshiping Him in truth can never include kneeling before a tree to receive gifts which that tree did not provide. Materialism has no place in spiritual worship.

Be Blessed, The Fount

During a Special Called Town Council meeting Thursday December 10, 2009 the Council proposed to amend Grambling’s 2009 Budget and to adopt the 2010 Budget. The public hearing for these ordinances is scheduled for Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.

During this Special Called meeting in an unrelated employee relations matter, the Council sought to have Grambling employee Virginia Gill terminated because of an altercation she had with another employee.

Attorney Breedlove from the Grambling City Attorney’s office explained to the Council it is the mayor’s sole responsibility to hire and fire Grambling employees with the exception of department heads and city offices such as the Clerk, City Attorney, or the water department head.

After an Executive Session, the Town Council unanimously voted to recommend that Grambling Mayor Martha Andrus fire Ms. Gill immediately effective the next business day. Mayor Andrus received the recommendation by saying “You are free to make that recommendation” and made no further comment.

After the meeting adjourned, Mayor Andrus commented to The Fount as to why she was not going to fire Ms. Gill at the Grambling Town Council’s insistence. The Mayor explained that Ms. Gill had already been suspended for two days without pay for her unacceptable behavior, and that firing Ms. Gill was unnecessary.

Doug Kaufmann’s “KNOW THE CAUSE” comes to Grambling!

Based on his 38 years of experience as a clinical nutrition researcher, Viet Nam Veteran, author and TV show host Doug Kaufmann of “Know The Cause” provides scientific reports and doctor references to back his belief that there is a fungal link to diabetes, cancer, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, obesity and a host of other health issues.

Not only does Mr. Kaufmann expose this little known cause of disease in America and around the world, he also offers proven, practical and inexpensive suggestions for people to turn their health issues completely around.

What we found particularly astounding about Mr. Kaufmann’s discoveries regarding fungus being a major cause of disease is that his assertions are also biblical!

Doug Kaufmann’s TV show is available locally on satellite or cable by watching the Christian Television Network at 9:30 a.m. M-F or by going to: www.knowthecause.com and clicking on the ‘Watch The Show’ tab. His TV show is available to 75+ million households. He also provides a free monthly e-newsletter.

When Mr. Kaufmann comes to Grambling to conduct this life-changing seminar, he is bringing a team of doctors and scientists with him to educate the public regarding this vital fungal link in our health care. We will discover that the fungus among us is more treacherous and pervasive than we’d ever imagined, yet we can prevail against it when the proper steps are taken.

The FREE Grambling Health Seminar previously scheduled for April 10, 2010 is now scheduled for the morning of Saturday April 24, 2010. Advance registration is required, simply go to The Fount Online’s Grambling Health Seminar Registration page by clicking here.
