Lord, Help Us To SEE

Jean's Horse 1

HE sees better than we do...

When I saw this horse’s eyes and those funny sunglasses on his nose, it reminded me of the way certain people see things sometimes.

The horse’s eyes are on the side of his head which means he has a much broader view of his surroundings than we do. Typically other than for some peripheral vision, humans only see straight ahead.

Placing human sunglasses on the horse is a playful and harmless gesture, yet instinctively we understand that we can’t make that horse ’see’ like we do.  But some of us can learn to ’see’ like he can!

Sometimes, people try to make us ’see’ like they see – maybe we can and maybe we can’t.  But only God can open the spiritual eyes of a man to help him see farther and wider; way beyond his physical limitations.

Our human tendency is to think and perceive things in a straight ahead linear format (1, 2, 3).  This is why the traditions of man, and man’s religion with so many different denominations obstructs the true pathway to God.   In contrast to man’s ways, God works in a much bigger and freer abstract format (8, 4, 120).  God’s way of seeing and accomplishing things is way beyond our limited understanding.

Artists grasp the linear vs. abstract concept very well, and once a person’s mind has opened up to newer, better, freer and more peaceful ways, most times they are not willing to let the blinders of closed-mindedness hinder them ever again.

Sometimes, people insist on looking at things ONE WAY for fear of their comfort zone being disrupted, fear of the unknown, fear of losing what little they have, fear of being proven wrong, fear of being taken advantage of, or fear of becoming a little fish in a big pond when all they’ve ever known is being the big fish in the little pond.  So many fears…

It is this same fear that causes some to keep wearing virtual reality glasses even though FAITH is available to help them see what’s real and what’s true.  In their heads, they believe they are open-minded, faithful and loving when in fact they have blinders on.  They’ve never experienced the peace and freedom of a broader, abstract world view.

Sometimes, we can’t even see or appreciate the beauty which is right in front of us.

So it is with racism.

“Lord, help us to see the world view that You see through the eyes of Your faith!”  Amen.
